Ravenmaster: What are you doing?
Ravenmaster: We discussed this.
Ravenmaster: He isnât allowed to touch you.
Ravenmaster: Youâre mine. Iâm not sharing you with HIM.
I turn off the ringer and lock my screen, sliding the phone in my pocket as I get up to refill my glass. Grayson should be arriving with his dad any minute now. Iâm surprised my father left so little time to convince me if I had said no. But on the other hand, I could tell he didnât want to force this on me.
Grabbing my freshly topped off glass, I head for my own office rubbing the space between my eyes. Vander stiffens the moment he sees me. I can see the temptation to melt the icy wall heâs built between us, but at the last minute, he decides not to ask whatâs wrong. As I pass by Jenâs office, I pop my head inside. âCan you send Grayson to my office when he arrives?â Iâm already moving on before she can even answer me.
As soon as Iâm in my office, I sink into my chair. It wonât help to dwell on things, so I get to work answering some emails and glancing over proposed design specs. Before I know it, thereâs a knock on my door. âCome in,â I yell out as I shut down my computer.
Grayson saunters in. âLove bug! There you are!â he greets me. That needs to get squashed right the fuck now.
âNo. No cute, lovey dovey names. I donât do those,â I deadpan. This isnât the time to beat around the bush. âWe need to talk.â
The smile slips from his face. âNothing good ever comes from those words. Whatâs wrong?â
âWe need to discuss the marriage contract. I have a few stipulations that need to be met if Iâm agreeing to being your wife on paper,â I start off, moving around my desk to lean against the front of it. I donât want him towering over me for this conversation.
âWhat?â he snaps. His eyes go wide with shock and he freezes mid step. Itâs unclear why he would be so caught off guard with my response. Heâs the one whoâs been calling me wifey, putting a claim on me, and clinging like white on rice. He tries to recover and pastes a smile on, but it doesnât reach his eyes. How intriguing. Seems my future husband is trying to hide something from me.
âWhat do you mean, what? The marriage contract. The whole reason you're here today⦠ring any bells for you? We need to discuss some stipulations.â This time he has his emotions fully locked down and I donât even see a hint of what heâs thinking in his eyes. Well, thatâs not as much fun. Maybe this will get a reaction. âYou know the whole hubby and wifey, till death do us part.â
I made sure to add extra emphasis on the word death, and the moment it passed my lips, Grayson became ashen. He clears his throat and pulls at his collar in an adorable nervous tick.
